A payment arrangement allows residential City of Austin utility customers the opportunity to pay off a past-due bill balance to keep their utility accounts in good standing. A payment arrangement gives customers extra time to bring their utility accounts up to date.

The following are some answers to common questions about payment arrangements for residential customers.

If, for whatever reason, you are unable to pay your monthly bill, call Customer Care at 512-494-9400 to resolve the issue. If you are not yet on a payment arrangement plan or if you have broken your current payment arrangement, we will help you determine if you qualify for any payment arrangement options.

You will receive mailed notifications from us that your utility bill is past due and payment in full is needed to prevent collection activities on your account, including possible disconnection of services.

A payment extension allows you a little more time pay your current bill.

A payment arrangement allows you to pay a past due balance in monthly installments until it is paid in full. Your current charges are due with the monthly installment by the bill's scheduled due date while you are paying a past due balance under the payment arrangement agreement.

You should check the eligibility requirements for each option to help you decide which one is right for you.

You can set up a payment arrangement before you fall behind on your utility bills.

Call Customer Care at 512-494-9400 or email us to see if you qualify. A customer service representative will review your account and determine your eligibility, the terms and options available to you, and the monthly installment amount.

You can also log in to COA Utilities to request a 12-month payment arrangement online. Other payment terms and options may be available to customers who contact Customer Care by phone or email.

Payment arrangement installments may span up to 24 months or less based on your previous payment arrangement history. You may be required to make a down payment. In order to ensure you do not default on your payment arrangement, you must always pay your current bill and your payment arrangement installment by the due date. 

You have unlimited payment arrangements, as long as you have fulfilled all of your previous payment arrangements. If you no longer have payment arrangement options, you must bring your account current to qualify for future payment arrangement options. 

If you break your payment arrangement, you should contact us at 512-494-9400 to determine if another payment arrangement option is available. 

Customers enrolled in the discount are limited to a 24-month term or a maximum installment of $48 a month on the payment arrangement. This $48 is in addition to your current monthly bill charges.
